How to put many products on sale in Shopify
Set each variant's Compare-at price to its original price, and lower its Price to the sale price. The compare-at price must be higher than the price for your theme to show the sale. To end the sale, put the price back and clear the compare-at price.
How sale prices work
A sale price in Shopify is two fields on each variant: Price, which the customer pays, and Compare-at price, which your theme can show crossed out. Shopify's example: a $30 t-shirt on sale for $10 has a Price of $10 and a Compare-at price of $30.
Your theme decides whether and where sale prices show, for example with a sale badge on collection pages. Only the sale price shows at checkout.
A sale price is not a discount. Discounts and discount codes are set up separately, under Discounts.
Set a sale on one product
- From your Shopify admin, go to Products and click the product.
- To edit a variant, click it in the Variants section.
- In the Price section, click Compare at and enter the original price.
- In the Price field, enter the sale price.
- Click Save.
Set a sale on many products
Select the products on the Products page, click Bulk edit, add the Price and Compare-at price columns, and enter both values for each variant. With many products, work out each sale price in a spreadsheet first.
Remember to write down the original prices: when the sale ends, every price has to go back by hand.
Run the sale, and end it, automatically
In Lever, pick the products (for example, a collection), copy each price into the compare-at price, and lower the price by a percentage, rounded to .99 if you like. Schedule it to start and to undo itself when the sale ends: every price goes back to what it was.
